n720792926_1526313_4552Thought in mind, pen in hand and the world as his canvas.  Christafer Brown has shown himself to be an extraordinary artist not only on paper, but through his work within his community.  As a member in the East Palo Alto Mural Music and Art Program (MMAP), Christafer has proven himself to be a dynamic student and a great mentor to the youth.  Chris has been a part of the MMAP family since his sophomore year in high school.  Throughout these years he has grown to be a very determined and goal oriented young man.  At 20 years of age, Chris has graduated high school, attended Ohlone College (JC), and transfered into Cal State Eastbay; where he will be attending in the fall.  He plans to major in Childhood development/education and minor in art, with a focus on photography.  Chris also participates in the History Through Hip-Hop program (HHH).  HHH is a program that allows youth to express themselves though music while also learning the history behind it, and how it evolved into what we listen to today.  Chris uses art to bring together not only his community but his church.  Deeply rooted in his Christian faith; Chris uses HHH as a gateway to hopefully change the negative image that Hip-Hop portrays in today’s society.  In doing so, Chris hopes to open up his audience to a vast majority of people.  Chris believes that MMAP has not only given him the knowledge to become a better artist but has also given him the tools to become a better person.  Aside from MMAP, Chris enjoys dancing, poetry, photography, and community service. “Change is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall. So who likes apples?” -Christafer Brown
