A MMAP-inspired fashionable new jewelry line

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

This week students in the HEArt program strung their clay beads into necklaces, bracelets, anklets and rings.  The results were beautiful!  One student even named her jewelry line “Glambition.”  We loved the idea of a fashion line that merged glamour and ambition.

Celebrating 2011 in style!

What is beautiful? Who gets to decide?

To celebrate the new year, HEArt students are kicking off 2011 in STYLE.  After discussing the role of beauty in our culture and the connection between body image and self-esteem, the students were put to a challenge.  They were to “forget” about what society says is beautiful and to make a fashion statement that celebrates their own creativity and uniqueness.  Using clay, the students made beautiful beads that they’ll use next week to create new jewelry.  The students are also working on a video that will explain the process so that you admirers can do it yourself at home!
