About MMAP

Mission

The mission of the Mural Music & Arts Project (MMAP) is to educate, empower and inspire youth through the arts. MMAP’s youth-development has developed a unique approach to employment, curriculum, assessment, and technology for the benefit of urban youth. MMAP has been recognized for continued success with prestigious awards.

Employment

MMAP offers employment opportunities for teens that enable our participants to develop job skills, contribute financially to their families, and participate in enriching and educational activities during the vulnerable after-school and summer hours. MMAP also effectively leverages a part-time model to retain highly talented college students.

Curriculum

The MMAP curriculum is formulated around the youth we serve with expert technical support from the Stanford University School of Education. Through the MMAP curriculum, teens conduct extensive community-focused research, allowing them to gain knowledge of and take pride in their community while contributing tangible community improvements.

Assessment

MMAP is a living organization, constantly learning and growing with the community and the youth population we serve. In this vein, MMAP is guided by ongoing programmatic and organizational assessments. Staff, students, collaborating organizations, and community members all actively participate in evaluations, and MMAP continually updates and improves its programs.

Technology

MMAP has pioneered new ways to leverage technology to educate youth and generate revenue through online and mobile art applications. MMAP has built an industry-standard music and recording laboratory and is currently developing a physical and virtual tour platform to promote its community art installations.
